Patient care & customer care consideration

Description:

Pharmacy Technicians often have more contact with patients then pharmacists.  It is important for pharmacy technicians to be able to recognize situations where the pharmacist needs to provide further consultation.  In order to do this, the pharmacy technician must be familiar with many different conditions, disorders, and medications.  Communication is a major part of the pharmacy technician’s role and knowing about different conditions, disorders and medications can help a technician to be more empathetic with their customers.

Step 2: Respond to the following:

Dermatological and Hematologic disorders can be both uncomfortable and scary for patients to experience.  Select one of the disorders that you have read about in the reading and discuss how you would feel if you were at a pharmacy getting your prescription filled.  Are there certain aspects of the disease or disorder that would make you feel uncomfortable or judged?  Would you find the way you take the medication confusing or difficult?  What behaviors would you expect from the pharmacy staff as a customer?  Will knowing more about anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology influence the way you treat pharmacy customers?

Step 2: Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two other students. Once again, use any personal experience if appropriate to help support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, students should debate the issues and provide examples to support opinions.
