Detective study method: (PRO CIA Detective) 007 steps 1. Pray – Ask the Author for help understanding His Book. 2. Read – Read the passage twice & jot down main points (outline). 2 Timothy 4 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 16 At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. Connect the dots to the Context and to Christ – Enter the world of the text – put yourself in their sandals, what would it have been like back then, & relate this passage to Christ and to the rest of scripture, and get help from the Body of Christ. a. What was happening back then? b. How is Christ the Hero of this story or theme? c. Research good teaching about this passage. 5. Interpret – Pull out of the text what the author meant, not just what you want it to say, but explain it in your own words. a. What did this mean to those who first heard it? b. What does this mean for us now that Christ has come? 6. Apply – Make an action plan. What must I do, value, believe, etc., in order to put this into practice? a. For myself b. For my family c. For my church d. For my community and city e. For my state and nation, & for all the nations 7. Devote myself to Christ – Delight in new glimpses of Christ, and dedicate & commit myself to living out this scripture, asking for God’s help and praising God for His truth now and praising Him with my life as a living sacrifice.
